01. Introduction & Basic Techniques

CloverJo PrakTrax as played by Jeff Kramer

This is a work in progress begun in January 2012 and I plan to document clawhammer techniques I have learned or created over the years in addition to sharing tunes that I have written.    All the materials are the specific property of Jeffrey P. Kramer d/b/a CloverLick Banjo Shop unless credit noted to others.   Anyone can utilize the materials for their own personal use and are compliments of CloverLick Banjo Shop.   Any commercial use or using the materials for any purpose other than personal use is strictly prohibited unless prior approval is given by Jeffrey P. Kramer d/b/a CloverLick Banjo Shop.    Thanks for allowing me to pass on these clawhammer techniques and off road tunes that I have enjoyed playing here in the shop over the years.    I hope to get some You Tubes of the me playing the tunes and demonstrating the FoxVille and Knaves Run Banjos.

In order to fully utilize PrakTrax you will need to download the FREE TEF View program to view, hear, and print out the various items in the PrakTrax site pages.    All the tunes are arranged with clawhammer banjo, guitar and bass in the downloaded .tef files.    In the TEF Viewer you can speed up or slowdown the techniques, you can shut off any instrument(s), you can play along, and all the time you are kept in time and moving.   It is fun and very helpful to learn and improve your clawhammer banjo.   Plus, you can have a jamm anytime and have a back-up band.   Give it a try!    Plus, you are able to print off the tablature, download the tef files to your computer, and modify them to your test if you purchase the software.

DISCLAIMER:
There is no substitute for working with an experienced instructor in learning clawhammer banjo techniques as this is an oral tradition instrument.   I recommend that you too go to a hands on lessons with an instructor of your choice.   I have enjoyed these tunes and techniques and I hope you do to.   Remember, there are many varieties and style.   This is one of many.   I hope you find something of value here while on your banjo journey.   My materials demonstrate my perspectives and techniques and are intended to be used by individuals who are seeking some different perspectives on down stroke clawhammer playing.

Good pickin' to you!
